How licensing worked
One license, every Mac
A license was tied to the Google account you sync with, not to a particular computer. Sign in on a second or third Mac and they all synced under the same license.
Trial first, then unlock
You could install Spanning Sync, use it for 15 days, and then buy. The purchase activated the copy you already had; nothing needed to be reinstalled and no data was re-synced.
Annual or one-time
The annual plan renewed each year. The one-time plan was a permanent license that never asked for another payment and included every later version.
