  1. Cost
Google CalDAV is free, and what could be better than free? Simple: something that makes you money, which is exactly what the Spanning Sync does with our Save 5+Make 5 program.

Several people have already made over $1,000 just by including their personal referral code in blog posts, Twitter tweets, and comments. Brian Dusablon is one of those people, and here's what he had to say:

It's pretty easy to get four referrals, and if you get five or more, you're at a profit already. [Within eight weeks] I hit $1,000. I'm donating half to charity, and I'm buying a Drobo.
We think saving money is great, but making money is even better.

  2. Customer Support
Sync is inherently complex, but when problems do crop up they can usually be solved quickly with just a little customer support. Unfortunately, Google doesn't provide any. They've even said publicly that it's "not feasible" for them to respond to individual requests for support. Users have been sorely disappointed with Google's lack of support.

At Spanning, superior customer support is a fundamental part of our business. We provide support our customers have called "tremendous", "excellent", and "stellar", regardless of whose software is causing the problem: Google's, Apple's, or ours.

  3. Contact Sync
Spanning Sync syncs not only calendars but also contacts, including contact photos. Click here to see a video. And of course contact sync works great with iPhone, just like our calendar sync.

Spanning Sync also supports existing iCal calendars, read-only Google calendars, and true Mac-to-cloud "push", none of which are supported by Google CalDAV.

First check the Troubleshooting section of the online Spanning Sync User's Guide. Your question may be answred there.

If not, please create a problem report (by opening Spanning Sync, clicking "Advanced..." and "Create report") and email it to us at along with a detailed description of the problem, including the titles of any affected calendars and events. That will help us track down the issue.

Spanning Sync doesn't require a registration code or serial number. Just log in to Spanning Sync with the Google account name (usually a Gmail address) associated with your Spanning Sync license and you won't see the "Buy" message.

Yes! If alarm syncing is enabled in the calendar options panel, then Spanning Sync will map existing iCal alarms to your choice of popup alarms, email messages, or SMS messages on Google Calendar. Existing Google Calendar popup alarms will sync to iCal as a message+sound alarm. Existing Google Calendar email message and SMS alarms will not sync since it's unlikely that you'd want to receive those alarms twice.

Yes. Spanning Sync has been localized to German, French, and Japanese, and we have plans for many more languages. Please see this blog post for more information.
This architecture allows Spanning Sync to be much more secure than client-only sync solutions, and makes it possible for us to adapt to changes in the Google Calendar API without requiring our customers to install new software.
Yes, but make sure you've updated to the latest release of Entourage (currently v12.1.5). Older versions had bugs that could cause database corruption and data loss. For more information about using Spanning Sync when also syncing iCal with Entourage, please see this blog post.
